Setting Realistic Targets

In order to set your fleet a realistic target you must first see where you currently stand. Therefore you must work out the Carbon Footprint of your total fleet. Your Carbon Footprint is the amount of C02 your fleet produces each year. To measure your approximate fleet Carbon Footprint you need to do the following:

Convert your average annual vehicle mileage into kilometers by multiplying it by 1.61 then take your average C02 emissions amount and multiply it by your average annual mileage. Finally divide this result by 1,000,000 to equal your average C02 in tonnes.

Then take this figure and multiply it by the number of vehicles on your fleet.

Of course this is only a rough guide, to work out your exact fleet Carbon Footprint you must do it on a car by car basis and add them all together. If you would like to acurately calculate your fleets carbon footprint using our tool specifically designed for fleets please... click here

A business running a fleet of 100 vehicles could save up to £90,000 per year by operating greener fleet policies. C02 emissions can be cut by choosing greener cars, driver training, tracking fuel consumption and managing business mileage. An alternative is to use video conferencing facilities rather than travelling.

One employee using video conferencing facilities, instead of making a journey from London to Manchester 12 times a year would reduce C02 emissions by 1.5 tonnes a year and result in an annual saving for the company of around £3,500. Source: The Energy Savings Trust
